My Holidays at Galway Kennels ; by Jack Russell

Posted on October 18, 2011 by Brian

When we are feeling a little ‘dog’ tired and in need of a little break our thoughts turn to holidays at Galway Kennels, Ardrahan, and this time tomorrow we will be back again, yippee!

My sister, Sally has already packed her chews and best pink blanket with the white spots all over but I am far too busy with thoughts of who else will be booked in this time and what craic a waits.

Anyway blankets and chews are not high on list of priorities, I know that Uncle Brian, Auntie Olwen and Cousin Kim will have all that covered, I might even book us in for some well earned sprucing up with Sasha of Diva dogs (my Mum says that this is very apt in my case, I disagree!).

I can already feel the excitement of turning the corner of that country road past Farmer Tannian’s house that if I stick my nose out of the window I will get those magic smells all over again – Oh joy!

Finally in the gate, my tail goes madly out of control, I see Brian smiling to welcome us. While it is great to make new friends, I can see with some relief that some of my old buddies are already running around some of the grassy paddocks (wonder if Alfie will show up this time).

After some well earned, running, smelling, greeting & smelling, dinner is served in our double kennel where Kim has thoughtfully scented out blankets with some lavender oil (my absolute favorite), we settle down and digest. A large yawn escapes Millie, the Great Dane in the kennel next door and we smile secretly in amusement.

In no time at all, Brian is back to let us out for our comfort break, wash our dishes and finally after a brief but welcome run around, we are tucked up for the night.

ZZZZ all around.

Morning comes and its time for breakfast and after a quick visit to the outdoor toilet, its back for munchies followed by a brief rest (saves on the antacids) and back out to play again. I just can’t wait to play catch with Bear, Bailey and Frank and maybe arrange kick up my heels with Arthur & Oliver a little while later. No doubt that Sally will be taking it easy, nattering on the bench in the yards with Boo, Cagney and Chance and all the other gossipy gals.

It’s great to know that when we eventually go in for our midday rest that housekeeping (sorry Kim) will have been in and changed our water bowls, washed all the dirty dishes and swept all those stray doggie hairs away.

By the time its time to go out again for the afternoon we will have re charged the batteries, had a bark or two and be ready to get up to some more tricks with our friends.

Oh Yeah, as they say in the doggie world, life’s not a bitch’ at Galway Kennels!!!
